Anesthesia masks are critical instruments for airway management and the delivery of anesthetic gases to patients. The sizing of anesthesia masks ensures that an appropriate fit can be achieved for a broad spectrum of patients, ranging from small neonates to adults of varying body sizes, with sizes designated from 0 to 8. Sizes 00, 0, and 1 are tailored for newly born neonates with low birth weight, infants shortly after birth, and slightly larger infants, respectively. Sizes 2, 3, and 4 are designed for children of different age groups, while sizes 6, 7, and 8 are intended for adults. Selecting the correct mask size is essential, as an undersized mask may fail to establish an effective seal, and an oversized mask can increase dead space, thereby limiting visibility of the patient’s face. It is imperative that the mask is positioned such that the edge of the cushion (cuff) makes complete contact with the skin, leaving no gaps to prevent air leakage.
The cushion or cuff, a soft and flexible component of the mask that interfaces with the patient’s face, plays a pivotal role in achieving an optimal seal, preventing facial skin irritation, enhancing patient comfort, and distributing applied pressure evenly. Cushions may be foam-based or inflatable; the inflatable cushions in KPK masks are engineered for superior sealing and can be adjusted based on the air pressure introduced into the cushion. The body of the KPK anesthesia mask, characterized by its transparency and biocompatibility, is robust and durable, designed to withstand pressure and impact during use and transportation. KPK single-use masks are provided in sterile, individual packaging, featuring details such as size, expiration date, and lot number printed on the packaging. Furthermore, KPK masks are MRI Safe, constructed from non-magnetic materials to avoid interference with MRI imaging when a patient requires an MRI during or immediately following anesthesia.
