Chromium, with the symbol Cr and atomic number 24, is a metallic chemical element with numerous industrial applications. Its main uses in industry include the production of steel alloys (for example, stainless steels that contain high amounts of chromium), coating steel parts to create a hard and wear-resistant layer, and the production of aluminum alloys.
It should be noted that due to the difference in melting points between chromium and aluminum, the best method for adding chromium to aluminum is through the use of master alloys (such as ingots containing 5 to 20 percent chromium, or chromium tablets such as Cr75 containing 75% chromium and Cr80 containing 80% chromium).
