Motorized Load Break Switch

A motorized load break switch is a three-phase, outdoor, medium-voltage switching device designed for switching and sectionalizing distribution feeders under normal load conditions. It is typically applied in networks rated at 11 kV, 20 kV and 33 kV. The switch operates in a gang-operated configuration, meaning that all three phases are opened and closed simultaneously through a single mechanical and motorized operating mechanism. Unlike a conventional disconnector, which is only intended for visible isolation and must be operated with no load current, this device is equipped with an internal load breaking system that allows it to safely interrupt normal feeder currents. The main assembly consists of three pole units with incoming and outgoing bushings, an internal switching and arc-quenching system (air or gas insulated depending on design), and a stored-energy operating mechanism.
