Imatinib

Imatinib (brand name Gleevec) is a medication used primarily in the treatment of certain cancers, particularly chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), and other cancers that involve the Philadelphia chromosome. It belongs to a class of drugs called tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), and it works by targeting and inhibiting specific enzymes (kinases) that are involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells.
