Possible side effects
No side effects reported.
Pumpkin seed oil enhances the hypotensive effect of captopril and fludipine. In 2 men, consumption of a combination containing squash, saw palm and vitamin E increased the INR (increased anticoagulant effect of warfarin), which reached the previous level by stopping the use. Although the role of squash or saw palm in increasing INR cannot be ruled out, it is likely that vitamin E interferes with vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors and enhances the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.

80% of men over the age of 80 complain of symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. The use of alternative and complementary medicine (CAM) in the treatment of BPH has a long history, especially in European countries. In the management of drug treatment of this disease, in addition to alpha blockers and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, nutritional interventions such as the use of pumpkin seed oil are also used. Pumpkin seeds are a rich source of vitamins A, B and E, linoleic acid, oleic acid, zinc, selenium, carbohydrates and phytosterols.
To evaluate the effect of pumpkin seed oil on rat prostate hyperplasia due to subcutaneous administration of testosterone at a dose of 0.3 mg per 100 g of body weight for 20 days, simultaneously administered pumpkin seed oil (2 and 4 mg per 100 g of body weight) or Corn oil (as a carrier) was also made for 20 days. Rat weight was recorded weekly and the effect of testosterone and pumpkin seed oil on rat weight gain was investigated. On day 21, the rats were sacrificed and their prostates were removed, cleaned and weighed. Then the ratio of prostate size (ratio of prostate weight to rat body weight) was calculated. Testosterone and pumpkin seed oil had no significant effect on rat weight gain.
